First Friday Picks November 2007

SJH at Small A Projects
Sincerely, John Head

Sincerely, John Head is having their first solo exhibition this month at Small A. The central focus of BOX SET: Car Show is SJH's 1977 Ford Ranchero, but it is only one element of their ongoing BOX SET project. Inspired by the 1977 album Foghat Live, "the year 1977, parking lot culture and fandom," BOX SET explores the physical traces of the "ephemera of fanaticism" and the way the legacy is constructed and packaged. Previous BOX SET projects include the Studio Sessions project for PICA's 2007 TBA festival.

Opening Reception • 5-8pm • November 2
Small A Projects • 1430 SE 3rd Ave. • 503.234.7993

Bryson Gill at Jace Gace
Bryson Gill

This month Jáce Gáce is exhibiting the first major exhibition of Bryson Gill's Works on Paper. Gill is more known for his large scale paintings - these more delicate landscapes capture both the stillness in any moment, and its fleeting, ephemeral nature.

Opening Reception • 5pm-12am • November 2
Jáce Gáce • 2045 SE Belmont • 503.239.1887

Randell Sims at NAAU
Randall Sims, "Untitled (Detail)"

For the month of November, NAAU presents Introducing Randall Sims, featuring the vivid, boldly formalist acrylic paintings of Randell Sims.

Opening Reception • 7-10pm • November 2
New American Art Union • 922 SE Ankeny • 503.231.8294

Luke Dolkas at 12x16
Luke Dolkas, "Violuke"

12x16 Gallery is exhibiting the object-oriented imagery of Tore Djupedal and Luke Dolkas this month, featuring a series of oil paintings and mixed media assemblages.

Opening Reception • 6-9pm • November 2
12x16 Gallery • 8235 SE 13th AVE, Suite 5 • 503.432.3513

25-25 at Nemo Design

Nemo Design is hosting 25 Photographers, 25 Objects, a group photography project curated by Greg Hennes. The concept is simple: 25 local photographers submitted 25 quotidian objects, Hennes distributed them randomly, and they were told to "take their best shot." The photographers include participants in the 2006 Oregon Biennial, such as Chris Bennet from Newspace, as well as a range of up-and-coming artists.

Opening Reception • 6-9pm • November 2
Nemo Design • 1875 SE Belmont • 503.872.9631
