Scratching the Surface, an August 2007 project by Gallery Homeland, is a series of installations, performances, discussions, and even a breakfast, designed to develop a creative of understanding of Portlanders' relationship with our waterways. The opening event features live music, performance, and installation art, including Grace Luebke & Ben Stagl's Tumbleweed at 7pm and Bruce Conkle's Mountain Romance at 8pm. This month, Newspace presents Estate Sale, a photography exhibition by Chris Willis. For the past year, Willis has been visiting estate sales, using a style he calls "casual observation photography" to document the beauty of used objects and the unique glimpse those objects give us into people's private lives and spaces.

For the month of August, NAAU will be featuring the work of Gabriel Liston. Tearfully Remembering Familiar Things is a collection of painting, drawing, and objects exploring the development of meaning in the process of making art from objects, actions, and life.
