Congratualtions PICA!

You may already know about this, since it’s been announced elsewhere, however, in case you haven’t heard, PICA has received 3 major grants totaling $225,000 from The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts of New York, The Paul G. Allen Family Foundation of Seattle, and The Collins Foundation of Portland, all of which points to the local, regional and national need that PICA satisfies.

The Andy Warhol Foundation, which did not support PICA with a grant last year, has recognized “TBA as a platform specific to this region and to PICA” with a two year grant totaling $80,000, according to Kristan Kennedy, Visual Art Program Director. The Andy Warhol Foundation grant goes specifically towards supporting artists making visual art and cross-disciplinary programming for both TBA and programming throughout the year.

The Paul G. Allen Family Foundation of Seattle has given a $75,000 grant to support the artistic programming for PICA’s 2007 Time-Based Art Festival. “Already recognized as a solid artistic voice in the Portland community, The Allen Family Foundation pointed to PICA’s role as a leader in the national and international artistic landscape.”(press release)

Finally, the Collins Foundation of Portland has pledged a two year matching challenge grant of $70,000 to “help PICA thrive, grow, and expand its new and increased individual contributions with their help. The grant is split with $40,000 matched 1:1 for new and increased individual gifts up to $1,000 per gift by December 1, 2007 and $30,000 matched 1:1 for new and increased individual gifts up to $1,000 per gift by December 1, 2008.” (press release) This means that everyone in the local community has an opportunity to really help PICA continue with the incredible programming that makes living in the Portland area so wonderful. Hopefully more fundraisers like Prints for PICA and Pints for PICA are on the horizon so that every level of giving will be brought into service.

Congratulations to everyone involved in the excellent work being done at PICA!
