Preparations for "Float"

Tonight get a double dose of Dave Eckard on Oregon Art Beat and at Chambers Fine Art. Oregon Art Beat will have a discussion of his performance piece for PICA titled "Float" (above). Dave's back from Rio?.... well not quite yet.

This is a great excuse to get out of the house after the snowstorm.... I wonder how Art Beat will handle the kinkier aspects of his work... hmmmm?

Overall, isnt this just the best crop of January shows in Portland history?

So much Eckard! What ever will I do?! I heard the time him and the whole group had in Rio was fun. Wish I could have gone...

I went to David's show, and I somewhat am on the fence with his new work. This work seems like a natural progression from his other series. A movement from singular objects, to paintings that read more like landscapes and still lifes, yet featuring the same organic/inorganic characters. However, I am unsure if this necessarily a positive or a negative.

The pieces are beautiful and imaginative, and I am starting to see David's work as the O'Keefe for this generation of painters. Such ambiguous objects, one can only associate them something subtle kink and sexuality. And who knew two stones coming together could make one think of sex.

Whether or not I am questioning this series, I would still purchase every single one if I wasn't busy doing the whole romantic starving artist stereotype. They are great, and David deserves plenty of praise.
