Betty Bowen Deadline Extended

VH.jpg
Clearcut by Victoria Haven

Visual artists in Oregon, Washington, and Idaho are encouraged to apply for the prestigious Betty Bowen Memorial Award, facilitated through the Seattle Art Museum. Not only is this an unrestricted cash prize (the last few years have seen an $11,000 award), but this is also a great opportunity to have your work seen by SAM curators and Betty Bowen committee members. Past recipients include Victoria Haven, Marie Watt, and Brian Murphy. And here's the best part, they are reviewing digital submissions as well as slides! So, you have no excuse. Here are the details:

To apply for the Betty Bowen Memorial Award, simply send the materials listed below to the BETTY BOWEN MEMORIAL AWARD, c/o Seattle Art Museum, 100 University Street, Seattle, WA 98101. There is no written prospectus. In order to be considered for the 2006 Betty Bowen Memorial Award, materials must be postmarked by FRIDAY AUGUST 4. Please do not personally deliver your entry materials as the museum is closed for expansion.
This year three types of entries will be accepted; Slides, Digital Slides and Video.

• Slides: send six slides of your work. Please select work of a similar style and medium, fully label each slide with your name, title of the work, date, medium, dimensions and the word “Top” to indicate the slide orientation of the artwork. Include a page with your application that lists this same object information for each slide including title of work, date work was made, medium and dimensions. Slides will be viewed in a double slide projection format.

• Digital Slides: This year we are accepting digital submissions. READ THESE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY: digital entries that do not follow these guidelines will be disqualified. Please submit a CD with six images in a Power Point presentation. Three PowerPoint slides should be submitted with two images on each slide (so we can view your images in a double slide projection format). Please do not label these digital slides with any information below the image that would be visible on the screen, but instead include a separate page with your application which lists your name, title of the work, date, medium and dimensions in order for each of the six works included. Please limit the size of your PowerPoint presentation to 5MB. We cannot and will not put your digital images into a PowerPoint document for you. We will be using a PC operating system to view the PowerPoint Slides. If you have questions as to the quality of slides submitted digitally we invite you to submit physical slides.

• Video: Video artists please submit work in DVD or VHS form and limit the length of your submission to five minutes.

Additionally, please include a resume, statement, and SASE.
