Chris Johanson Lecture at PSU Jan 23rd

cover-3.jpg
Chris Johanson is Portland's top living international artist but of course he's here because it is a great place to live and work, especially if you follow your own iconoclastic drumbeat.

He will present his work as part of the PSU MFA Monday Night Lecture Series
The public is invited and it's free!

Monday, January 23rd, 7:00pm 5th Avenue Cinema Room 92 510 SW Hall St.
(on the corner of SW 5TH & Hall on the PSU Campus)
Sponsored in part by PICA

I stopped by motel yesterday to see the beautiful, wintery Rachel Sumpter show and picked up a copy of ANP Quarterly - www.rvcaanp - an art-culture-skate magazine from California. Lo and behold, the cover has a gigantic picture of Chris Johanson and Jo Jackson (and their dog) on the cover. Inside is a long spread with multiple interviews and collaborative drawings made especially for the issue.

You only have a few more hours to go pick up your copy at motel because it's the last day of the show (don't miss it!) and then motel will be closed until March 1. According to the website, you can still pick up a copy at Jackpot and Reading Frenzy (if there are any left!).

PICA just released a more complete schedule of the PSU lecture series organized by Harell Fletcher. Lectures will take place every Monday through March 13, plus one is scheduled for April. PORT will be posting more details each week, so please check back.

Jan 30 : Jo Jackson
Feb 6 : Yan Chung-Hsien
Feb 20 : Arnold Kemp
March 6 : Steve Badgett (Simparch)
March 13 : Frederic Paul
April 24 : Jim Drain

At the bottom of PICA's email, they slipped in a plug for a major lecture co-sponsored with Reed by Marina Abramovic. This event didn't even make it into Jeff's recent spring 2006 preview post - it's going to be a busy year! The lecture takes place on March 7 at Reed's Vollum Hall at 7p.

Yes, lists are odd things to compile. I felt that the Ovitz show trumped the Abramovic talk only because I'd rather see work than have a lecture.

Still it doesnt diminish that lecture... basically, Reed has completely taken over the #2 slot in Portland's constantly re-jigging scene.
