Knutson-BF-2010.jpg
Michael Knutson, installation view, Blackfish Gallery October 2010

Blackfish presents a solo show by Michael Knutson. The show includes paintings from two bodies of work: The recent Translucent Fields, which explore illusions of transparency and degrees of opacity, and Cubic Knots, an earlier series of octagonal paintings that have never been shown before.

Opening reception • 6-9pm • October 7
Blackfish Gallery • 420 NW 9th • 503.224.2634

PNCA presents Seven Decades of Painting by George Johanson, a distinguished PNCA alum from back in the "Museum School" days who also taught painting, life drawing and printmaking at PNCA for 25 years before retiring in 1980. His work will be on view in Swigert Commons through November 20th, and he'll be lecturing this weekend for PNCA's Alumni Weekend (the lecture is free and open to the public).

Jordan Tull, Untitled

In a surprising match of gallery and artist, Waterstone is exhibiting Jordan Tull's Die Konturen Zeichnen. The show "celebrates the Portland-based artist's commitment to hybrid abstraction - evoking minimalism, goth, modern architecture, and techno through fabricated metal sculptures."

Opening reception • 6-9pm • October 7
Waterstone Gallery • 424 NW 12th • 503.226.6196

Blue Sky presents Out of the Drawers, two off-site exhibitions featuring work by more than 40 photographers selected from Blue Sky's Pacific Northwest Photography Viewing Drawers. Blue Sky's "Drawers" program is a juried repository of photographs by regional photographers based in Oregon, Washington, British Columbia, and Alaska. Both will be on view through January 3, 2011.

Opening reception • 6-9pm • October 7
ArtBar @ the Antoinette Hatfield Hall • 1111 SW Broadway

Viewing hours • M-F 10am-4pm except Thursdays 2-4pm

And don't forget! It's your last month to catch Ai Weiwei at the Museum of Contemporary Craft. Don't miss his unforgettable interview on PORT with Alex Rauch.
