Please allow me to introduce myself...
Hi, I'm Jessica.
I've worked with several regional art organizations over the past two years, most intensively with Portland Modern, and have developed a great deal of affection and respect for the local creative community. Having often felt that there are too few voices in Portland art journalism/criticism, I've taken up this enjoyable, if much-maligned, occupation in hopes of helping to record the energy of the scene and catalyze the type of open discussion that leads to artistic growth.
I will be posting Port's monthly First Thursday and First Friday "Picks," or "Pix," as I like to call them, for, as Jeff alluded to in his introduction, I'm an occasionally overzealous user of quaint misspellings. While I will author the Picks postings, all Port staffers will have the opportunity to offer input toward the creation of the final list--a casual grouping of whatever catches our collective eye. I'll also write art criticism for Port. My most recent work in that department--a review of the Blood Rainbow Family's Haunted exhibition at Disjecta--is posted on the current issue of NW arts webjournal Visual Codec.
