Lee Kelly, "A One Pound Canto," 1960

Lee Kelly, a retrospective of the 50-year career of "one of the Pacific Northwest's most distinguished artists" opens this weekend at PAM. The exhibition will feature some 30 sculptures, paintings, and works on paper, along with photographic documentation of Kelly's major public works. This Sunday, chief curator Bruce Guenther presents Lee Kelly: An Intersection of Matter, a lecture discussing Kelly's artistic career.

The Hallie Ford Museum of Art at Willamette University presents The Third Crow's Shadow Institute of the Arts Biennial. Organized by Willamette University professor Rebecca Dobkins and Crow's Shadow Master Printer Frank Janzen, the exhibition will include a selection of recent, contemporary prints by Native American artists from throughout the United States. There will be an artist talk next weekend by Ric Gendron and Wendy Red Star Wolf, as well as an ongoing series of gallery talks almost every Saturday afternoon from October 9 through November 13.

In conjunction with the ongoing exhibition ABSTRACT, the Cooley Gallery presents an artist lecture by Lynne Woods Turner. "Lynne Woods Turner's subtle, rigorous, and delicate oil paintings emerge through the artist's passionate exploration of mathematical relationships, natural phenomena, and the visceral responses of the human body..."

Interested in elementary arts education? Buckman Elementary is hosting the Young Audiences' Artist Showcase this weekend. "School arts advocates will have the opportunity to meet Young Audiences’ teaching artists, and check out their sampler performances and mini-workshops. The free event provides a fun and engaging opportunity to begin planning arts experiences for school communities, and to learn about how to raise money for school arts education programs."
