artist + participant opportunities

IGLOO Gallery is hosting If It Ain't Broke Don't Fix It, an Open Engagement project by Sara Black and John Preus. They're soliciting the participation of "four individuals, couples, groups or families who own a broken thing and who might like to see it 'repaired.'" The ask participants to consider the following:
"Three options are available with each instance of brokenness:
Return: re-approximate the state prior to brokenness.
Concession: landfill, death, surrender. At this point, we relinquish control to biology.
Transformation: material and/or functional qualities are diverted. We seek or uncover an objects novel capacities."
Repairs will take place at the gallery on Monday, May 17. If you're interested, contact info@blackpreus.org ASAP.

Portland Stock is seeking proposals for the June dinner. If you're not familiar, Stock events are dinners where attendees pay a small fee, get fed, watch artists present proposals, and at the end of the meal vote together on which artists gets the proceeds of the dinner. To have your project considered for the June dinner, please submit a proposal to portlandstock@gmail.com by May 30. Criteria and guidelines can be found on the Stock blog.

Kutztown University (in Pennsylvania) is seeking proposals from "artists, craftspersons, and designers for the production of an original, temporary, site-specific installation for our exhibition space." The work will be on view January 28 - March 4, 2011, and the selected artist or team will receive a $10,000 award which should cover all material and labor costs for the project. Selected artist(s) will be in residency from January 10 - 27, 2011 at the university. Proposals are due June 11, and you can read all about it on the Kutztown University Sharadin Art Gallery website.

Fix Studio is seeking submissions from regional NW designers for ShowPDX 2010. Work should be "furnishings defined as movable, functional objects that make a room or other area ready for occupancy and activity by humans," but samples must be submitted as 2D representations. Submissions are due by May 31 and you can learn more on the Show PDX website.
