a productive start to 2010

UO's White Box gallery in the White Stag building is seeking project proposals for the 2010-2011 season: "Artists, architects, designers, curators and organizations are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to original exhibitions, curated for the White Box spaces, exploring contemporary inquiry from unique perspectives, and demonstrating a relationship to a global art and design conversation, Portland's community and the academic mission of the University." The deadline for submissions is January 15. For more info and to apply, contact whitebox@uoregon.edu.

In honor of their 20th anniversary, the McKenzie River Trust is sponsoring a juried exhibition called The Living River celebrating "the beauty and vibrancy of the rivers and streams of western Oregon." Submissions to be included in the show are due by January 30. For more info and the artist entry form, go here.

Local artists Sarah Gottesdiener and Jenny Hoyston are seeking artist/performer/etc. participants for a monthly post-First Friday anti-stuffy art salon they're launching this February at Branx. If you would like to show art, perform, play music, or really do anything to participate, contact sarah.gottesdiener@gmail.com.

South Seattle Community College is seeking submissions for an upcoming show titled live + work: Artists Respond to the Recession: "Is it possible to make art and live? Zero health-care, mass unemployment, cuts in education and arts funding, dead-end jobs, studio space turned condo, dried up resources and slowing art sales. What happens now? How will you adapt?" The deadline for submissions is February 5. For more information, contact tcilona@sccd.ctc.edu.
