Sneak peek at OCAC & PNCA's joint MFA in Applied Craft and Design

Craft_design_prog1.jpg
OCAC and PNCA's joint MFA program in Applied Craft and Design started just a few days ago and the students have the rare and wonderful opportunity to design and build out the space their new program inhabits. It's a soaring industrial location at NE 10th and Flanders right across from the Franz bread bakery.

A classic airstream trailer will house the computer lab and program director JP Reuer's office.

Students work out the design of their personal spaces

Designer Steve Badaness (in orange) was working with the students (he will lecture tonight in the space)

I feel this hands on approach (somewhat akin to Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin teaching method) could produce the next big company (like Ziba or Nike) for Portland's creative economy.
