First Friday Picks June 2009

John Brodie's much-anticipated Store for a Month is having its opening party for First Friday. This art project and temporary retail storefront is open from June 3 - 28, 2009, Wed-Sun, 12-7pm. Store for a Month features work by over 60 local artists made specifically for the store, and occasional fresh-baked pie.

Worksound presents City Body Dust, "an alchemic show looking at how four artists are affected by bodies and urban landscape." The show features Laura Foxman, Matthew Letzetler, Arrington De Dionyso, and William Rihel.

Ben Stagl

Ben Stagl presents new sculpture, prints, and video at Gallery Homeland. Unfolded "is a playful examination of both the architectural and philosophical concepts surrounding the fold and the act of folding influenced by the thoughts and writings of Gilles Deleuze, Edo era Japanese origami, and Chinese paper folding traditions of Zhe Zhi."

Newspace presents A Portland Chronicle, works by two artists celebrating "Portland's quirky denizens and vibrant arts scene." Motoya Nakamura is exhibiting portraits of the "movers and shakers" in the Portland arts scene, including PAM director Brian Ferriso, Cooley curator Stephanie Snyder, and painter Hank Pander. Jan Sonnenmair is showing "fun portraits of Portlanders stepping out on the town in their fashionable best, shot along Alberta Street during the Last Thursday Art Walk."
