Jessica Skloven, 2008 winner

Newspace is seeking submissions for their 5th annual juried exhibition, which will be on view in August 2009. All photographic themes and processes are accepted, but work must have been created within the past three years. Selected photographers will participate in the exhibition, and one will receive a solo show at Newspace and a $500 award. Submissions are due May 29. Details here.

Oregon State Hospital

The Oregon State Hospital Replacement Project is seeking artists "interested in creating architecturally integrated artwork and artist fabricated functional elements" for the facility, which is famous as the location in the film One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Submissions are due April 27. More details can be found via the Oregon Arts Commission (PDF).


Alyssa Larkin is seeking submissions for a benefit exhibition for the Sexual Minority Youth Resource Center at Backspace. Work should address gender, sexuality, and identity, in any medium. Submissions are due May 16. Contact Larkin for more information.

Larry Sultan, "Boxer Dogs," from "The Valley"

A bay area photographer, Larry Sultan is best known for such projects as "Pictures from Home" where Sultan photographed his father and family over a ten year period spanning the 70s and 80s, and "The Valley," a study of the pornographic film business in the San Fernando Valley where he grew up.
