Last Weekend

Ok it's 2009, but it is also the last weekend for these four interesting shows held over from 2008.

livia_marin_ficciones_de_un_uso1.jpg
Livia Marin, Form Follows Variation

The Museum of Contemporary Craft's Manufractured. There are a lot of highlights in this massive group show, including Regis Mayot and Jason Rogenes (a personal favorite). Show runs through January 4th (it's free too but consider becoming a member)

Maertz_Sunflowers.jpg
Allen Maertz at Chambers @ 916's wonderful new Pearl District gallery space. I've known Allen socially for a few years so I wasn't surprised the former New York resident and Architectural Record photographer was good... but I didn't know he was this good. Ends January 3rd

OPSimg17-sm.jpg
Oregon Painting Society at Fontanelle Gallery. This somewhat pagan conglomeration of recent PNCA grads has the kind of energy and sheer cajones is just what the scene has needed. Post graduation gangs of artists like this are what spawned the YBA's and we should watch these young fresh art fiends in 2009. Ends January 3rd.

back_smith_woolley.jpg
Steven Scott Smith's Selections from Me9 at Mark Woolley. Check out Alex's PORT review here, highly recommended... ends January 3rd

Thanks for your kind words about the Oregon Painting Society! One correction to your article is that our show at Fontanelle is going to be carried over through January. And since we left a couple square feet of room in the gallery the first time, we'll be adding a sculpture of a UFO into the mix and performing beneath it at 8pm on January 8th. Hope you can make it!
