Calling Artists & Curators

donovan-information.jpg
Melia Donovan, "Item of information #1" from the 2006 CoCA Annual

Seattle's Center on Contemporary Art is seeking submissions for its annual juried exhibition. This year's Annual is juried by Riko Nakasone from Vancouver's Bau-Xi Gallery. CoCA is asking artists to respond to the theme hybrid: "The elements of the world we live in are increasingly becoming synthesized, mixed and reorganized. New ideas are being combined with existing ones. From cars to food, politics and religion, biochemistry, new technologies and art, we are all experiencing the 'hybrid'." First and second place, selected by the juror, take $500 and $250, respectively. Submissions are due by October 23 - learn more on CoCA's site.

"Apexart wants to come to you." NYC-based arts group presents "The Franchise," a call for curators that invites anyone, anywhere in the world (except New York) to design a group exhibition and submit their proposal. Apexart will train, finance, and support the winner to develop their proposal, exhibiting in spring 2009. This is a remarkable opportunity to overcome almost any budgetary and pragmatic hurdle to realize your curatorial vision. The deadline is December 1, and you can read the details here.

Nemo Design is seeking submissions for Thanksgiving, a group show/auction. They're looking for photography of something or someone for which (or whom) you are grateful. Single images or triptychs will be accepted, in all sizes, and all proceeds will be donated to the Oregon food bank. Submissions are due November 3, dropped off Attn: Heather Hanran at 1875 SE Belmont. 503.943.3027 for questions.

Fugitive Projects is seeking video shorts - 1 min or less - for the Fugitive Video Project. Last year's invitational featured a great lineup of international artists, including Portland homegrowns Melody Owen, e*rock, Edward P. Davee, Bill Daniel, and Gretchen Hogue. There are 20 spaces open in this year's project via open call, submissions due by November 20. Details here.
